Made Clothing @ the Wedding Fair
Posted by on March 19, 2012
The crew and I attended the Twin City Wedding Fair yesterday on Sunday March 18, 2012. It was a wonderful turnout of brides, grooms and their posse. A lot of interested folks stopped by our booth to check out our customizable, tailor-made suits and tuxedos. We also offered a free tailored shirt to those who purchased or plan to purchase their wedding attire f
Rob V., Branden, [Oxford comma] and Rob G. did a fantastic job and I’m glad to have them on board with Made Clothing.
Modern Wedding, Modern Suits
Posted by on December 8, 2011
I hate the look of those cheap-looking rental tuxes that are not-so-cheap. Please tell me you do, too. An alternative to those tuxes are suits. You can get more mileage out of a suit that you use at your wedding or as a groomsmen. Here are a few pics of some weddings I suited up over the past summer.
The groom chose a black wool suit with a waistcoat and the groomsmen chose a grey wool suit with waistcoat. I met with a few of them personally to take their measurements but a few were on the east coast so they visited a local tailor to get their measurements taken. It was a pleasure working with the groom and groomsmen and they looked great!
These groomsmen chose a light grey wool suit for the lavish Napa Valley wedding. One of the groomsmen stated that there were a few other guys at the wedding in suits from indochino and brooks brothers and he said, “hands down, Made suits fit the best, felt the best and looked the best.” Thanks guys for choosing Made Clothing for that very special day!

The Finer Things in Life; Scotch and Suits
Posted by on December 5, 2011
I’ve found a lot of clients like a personal aspect to the process of purchasing tailored clothing. This is hard when I try to sell tailored clothing via my website. So, I recently put together a gathering with the help from one of my clients (and good friend).
The idea was to introduce Made to some new potential clients. So, asked my friend if he would be interested in hosting a “man’s night” at his place and I’d bring suits, fabric samples and a bottle of scotch. He invited 5 of his friends and colleagues, and we had a nice evening discussing some of the finer things in life such as tailored attire and Belvenie 12 year. One slight incentive I gave my friend was 20% store credit on all sales made that night. It worked out quite nice, I got some face time with new clients and my friend nearly got a free suit just for hosting at his place.
You Give the Design, We get it Made

There is a lot more that can (and should) be tailor made than just a suit or shirt. I’ve had requests to tailor make certain designs that some of my clients see on a celebrity, on a blog or out and about but just can’t find it in other stores. My tailors are highly skilled and can design a pattern simply based on a photo or rough sketch. We also have access to fabric markets where you can find tweeds, wools, cottons and so on. We will do the scouring and search the fabric markets to find a perfect match for the material you are searching for.
Here is an example of what we recently made:
Someone was interested in this outfit that they came across but didn’t know where to get each piece. So, they submitted the pic to me along with their measurements.
I scoured the fabric markets to find the gray tweed and the navy cotton for the chinos since I didn’t have them in my current inventory. The client also wanted the shirt made but with a more traditional collar so we made those tweaks while drawing up the pattern. We then cut the patterns based on the clients measurements and tailored the outfit.
I love the blazer and the many ways it can be styled, dressed-up and dressed-down. The unique black trim on the lapels and pockets is also an added detail.
If you ever catch a glimpse of an outfit and don’t know where to get it, remember you can always get it custom made.
Question #1: How to Tie a Tie?
Posted by on August 15, 2011
The number one burning question that was asked to Yahoo search engines was ‘how to tie a tie’ in 2010 according to a Yahoo year in review article.
The funny thing is, I wasn’t shocked nor surprised at all. In fact, I had a bit of nostalgia for the so called stress of figuring out how to tie a tie minutes before heading out the door to that college interview. Now there is a new kind of stress.
I’m not going to add a link or demo of how to tie a tie, yet. I’ll let you search the web for it as we all have done and we’ll see if this question gets on the 2011 list.
My only question is how did we figure out how to tie a tie before the days of the internet?

So Far So Good
Posted by on August 5, 2011
Its been about 6 months since I’ve been actively operating, managing and promoting Made Clothing as well as all the other joys of running this business. What I have to say: so far so good!
I’ve made tons of new contacts, built up clientele, suited up several wedding parties and most importantly made new friends. Its been a learning experience and a challenge but my passion for designing, making, tailoring, marketing, and so on, is what drives me. I’ve found I have a clear passion for suits, shirts and other tailored clothing and I’m also highly driven to make this business model work efficiently and effectively and continuously improve.
So, whats in store for Made Clothing over the next six months?
I’m working on a few designs for the ladies since there has been a lot of feedback and a clear demand for fashionable and good fitting women’s suits. I’ve been lucky enough to have the help of my beautiful fiancé who is an extremely talented artist and has been designing a few pieces. I’ll have more on that later. So ladies, keep your eyes peeled!
I’m also working on expanding distribution through sales representatives–direct sales add a personal touch and have been a key driver of sales. I’ve had a few people contact me who want to push sales of Made Clothing by seeking and meeting with potential clientele. I’m in the process of training them to take measurements as well as supplying them with all the tools they need to offer our tailor made and customized clothing. I started this business with the idea of reaching out to a larger audience by using eCommerce, however, I’ve found that clients like a personal touch in the process of their suit and clothing purchases.
I’d also like to blog more. I’ve found I’m not the best at keeping up with my blog, among other things. I’m going to reach out to other fashion bloggers to help out on this and perhaps offer an incentive to have bloggers write for me. Perhaps I offer an incentive to get bloggers motivated to write for me? I’m still brainstorming on this one. More to come!
Anyways, its been a great start and the ball is definitely rolling! Special thanks and big appreciation to all my loyal friends, family, and clients!
Three, Two, One Button
Posted by on August 4, 2011
I remember my first suit, it was a 3-button suit–yuk!! Its interesting, sometimes frustrating, how fashion somehow evolves and trends come, then go, then come again. However, I’m not sure if a three button suit was ever fashionable or if it was the only off the rack option available? For my first suit, I went to some suit outlet where you buy 1 for $150 but if you buy 2 you get them for $100 bucks each. I think my brother and I went in on the deal together. At the time, I thought it was fashionable–little did I know. I think I dug up that suit a few years ago and wore it for Halloween as Frankenstein–it was perfect; boxy and square.
Now, my wardrobe consists of mostly 2 button suits, except for one that I recently made; the one button suit. I made it with thinner lapels and a deeper and more aggressive “V” in the lapels. I wore this suit at a few modest fashion shows I was a part of and during a trunk show that I hosted, and its been the hottest seller.
I made it in a jet back wool and paired the suit with a white shirt and a skinny black tie for a formal look. I think I’ll have one made in gray next.
